Privatised two years ago, Belo Horizonte has recently completed its 300m USD Terminal 2 within a 14 month period. What differentiates this airport from so many others is its extraordinary 'sense of place' centepiece - Praca Mineira. This defines the airport and provides a real showcase as to what can be achieved. The focus is on food, art, heritage and handcrafts, and the commercial yield is excellent. For Baumann, airports themselves should drive 'sense of place' and what can be viewed here may well open the eyes of many.
